What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute - Children's Center/Small Miracles position at Holston Home for Children?
The Substitute Teacher reports to the Program Director. The Substitute Teacher will be called upon to work when a regular childcare teacher/associate teacher/teacher assistant takes a vacation or has a sick day.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age.
- Additional training in early childhood education is preferred.
- Personality traits that relate warmly and effectively with young children, co-workers, parents, volunteers, and community members.
- Meets health and physical requirements, including a tuberculosis skin test and drug screening prior to employment.
- Upon acceptance of substitute employment, the substitute must complete the on-the-job training checklist.
- The candidate must hold a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
- The position includes risk of exposure to communicable diseases; therefore, the candidate must be familiar with and practice universal health precautions.
- This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs. with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing, pulling, running, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing.
- Must subscribe to the agency’s Mission Statement and Organizational Values.
- Must demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the various cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- When substituting assure that the program for the children in his/her class is in accordance with the policies, procedures, and philosophy of the Early Childhood Ministries of Holston Home.
- Ensure that the childcare program is in compliance with the Licensing Requirements for Child Care Centers as established by the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services.
- Ensure that the lesson plans developed for a daily program of developmental learning and recreational activities that encompasses the needs of the individual child assuring that each child obtains a range of learning experiences that promotes development and supplements home experiences are carried out.
- Establish a positive liaison with parents or guardians of the children through daily contacts.
- Complete a daily activity report for each child or group as applicable.
- Treat each child with dignity and respect and promote an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural backgrounds and needs of the children.
- Assist in evaluating the children through daily observation.
- Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment while assuring the orderly arrangement, appearance, and décor and learning environment of the classroom.
- Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth when requested.
- Maintain a quiet, calm, and professional atmosphere at all times.
- Assist with daily attendance records of children served in your assigned classroom.
