Summary:
The Lead Monitor Technician is a clinical position that is responsible for oversight of on duty monitor technicians; reviewing strip interpretations and shift paperwork, observing both telemetry and hardware monitor central stations continuously, identifying possible cardiac arrhythmias, and notifying the primary nurse with any change that is not normal for that patient. The Lead Monitor Technician also acts as a relief Monitor Technician and interprets rhythm strips at regular intervals and reports any changes in the latest and previous strips to the nurse. Participates in maintaining an accurate tracking system for the transmitters. He/she actively participates in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collection, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality (KIQ's). This commitment to quality results in the development and implementation of action plans to include the monitoring of the effectiveness of improvements (Hold the Gaines). This position will demonstrate competency in the care of the (circle all that apply): Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric patient population(s). Access to patient information may be provided to perform the functions of this position; therefore the ability to maintain confidentiality is a requirement.
The Lead Monitor Technician is also responsible for proper skin prep and lead placement on the patient. The Lead Monitor Technician ensures telemetry transmitters are programmed and connected to the patient appropriately. The Lead Monitor Technician is knowledge in troubleshooting monitoring equipment. Once monitoring is complete, the Lead Monitor Technician retrieves the transmitter, cleans the medical equipment, and prepares it for the next patient. Additionally, the Lead Monitor Technician is responsible for training the Monitor Technicians on proper lead placement and overall management of the medical equipment.
The Lead Monitor Technician assists with assignment, planning, organizing, evaluating, and supervising on duty monitor technicians. The Lead Monitor Technician provides direction and support for staff. The Lead Monitor Technician serves as role model unit.
Teaching colleagues/peers and serving as an effective role model.
This individual serves as resource and expert for mentoring staff, team development, and staff retention. The person in this position must be able to work as a team leader by communicating effectively with team members and providing and open dialogue for solutions.
Individual will assist the clinical leader in interviewing and selection of team members, and provide input into competencies and evaluation of team members. Role modeling Ballad as the employer of choice for the region and maintain turnover rates within organization parameters is essential toward retention of team members.
Requirements:
Medical terminology and experience in the medical field is preferred. Minimum 1-2 years current experience as a Monitor Technician is preferred. Arrhythmia class or equivalent required.
Licenses and Certifications:
CPR certification required.
