Summary:
This position, under the direction of a qualified physician, assists in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures on patients. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care\treatment to patient population.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Under the direction of a physician, assists in performing all diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures including all types of structural heart and hemodynamic support cases and/ or complex EP cases to includes case types such as advanced cardiac procedures such as complex vascular cases, TAVR, EVAR, Mitra Clip and Impella to treat heart disease in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Performs/reviews a baseline patient evaluation as defined by scope of practice and facility. Evaluates patients' response to diagnosis, interventional maneuvers and medications during procedures. In EP Specialty, demonstrates knowledge, ability and skill to support complex EP cases (e.g. epicardial AF and VT ablations, lead extraction, leadless pacemaker).
2. Operates all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used for procedures in an efficient manner. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance in area of operation. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to all safety policies.
3. Demonstrates expert level knowledge of procedures and techniques, i.e. knowledge of normal and abnormal ECG rhythms and/or lead changes, various hemodynamic values, normal and abnormal pressures, ST elevation/depression. Monitors and records ECG and pressure waves during the procedures. Provides other aspects of patient care as needed.
4. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques as well as universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.
5. Demonstrates clinical expertise, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. May participate in employee performance assessments when serving as a preceptor. Participates in staff development, orientation, education and evaluation of clinical competencies when serving as a mentor or preceptor as assigned.
6. Accountable for the ethical, legal and professional responsibilities related to the score of practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
The advanced cath lab tech must be proficient, independently perform complex procedures under the supervision of a physician, in the complex vascular cases that have been defined previously in the job description. Must work in a cath lab where the team member has the ability to perform complex cases on a weekly basis based on the cath lab schedule and case mix.
Requirements:
Graduate of accredited Cardiovascular Technology Program with an Associate Degree preferred, or 4 years of cardiac cath lab experience. Registry required.
Must be registered RCIS, RDMS, of ARRT.
