Summary:
The Medical Staff/PPE Specialist has primary responsibility for facilitation and coordination of medical staff quality activities in compliance with medical staff policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
Principle duties and responsibilities of this position:
1. Works with regional Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff, and other physician leaders to facilitate compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and policy related to medical staff quality and performance improvement activities.
2. Collaborates with physician and hospital leadership to ensure activities are effectively implemented to measure, assess, and continuously improve quality of care, treatment and services provided by privileged practitioners.
3. Coordinates, supports, attends, composes minutes and provides direction for medical staff peer review functions
4. Ensures implementation of Ongoing and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation policies, procedures and related activities.
5. Provides consultation, investigation, and analysis of reported occurrences involving practitioners, assuring appropriate action and follow-up.
6. Prepares focused evaluation files to include all applicable information for review by the assigned medical staff practitioner and / or committee
7. Identifies and advances issues resulting from medical staff evaluation, working with Medical Directors (regional Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Staff, Department Directors), facilitating follow-up and corrective action as identified by the medical staff
8. Maintains individual practitioner quality files and electronic data base with practitioner quality data and information.
9. Provides support for the development of privilege criteria
10. Serves as an internal consultant and educator on medical staff quality subjects
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current license to practice as a Registered nurse or graduate of an accredited school with a Bachelors degree in public health, or other clinical specialty. Master’s preferred. Minimum of three years three years experience with healthcare quality.
Must have knowledge of accreditation standards and current state and federal laws and regulations related to medical staff quality activities.
Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively required.
Must have ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the medical staff and other professionals in order to engender confidence, respect and dependability.
Computer literacy and knowledge in Microsoft Office required
Professional presentation by appearance, actions, self-development and guest relations required.
Current License as a Registered nurse if applicable and CPHQ Preferred
