Job Title: 911 Dispatcher/Jailer
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented 911 Dispatcher to join our emergency response team. The 911 Dispatcher will be responsible for receiving, evaluating, and dispatching emergency calls while providing clear and calm communication to callers and field responders. This role requires quick thinking, sound judgement, and the ability to handle high-stress situations to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls professionally, gathering critical information to assess the nature and severity of each situation.
- Prioritize and dispatch appropriate emergency response units, including law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel, to locations as needed.
- Provide callers with clear instructions on safety, first aid, and other critical actions to take before responders arrive.
- Maintain accurate records of calls, incidents, and dispatches in the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
- Work collaboratively with other dispatchers, emergency personnel, and public agencies to coordinate reposes effectively.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies, communicate with field units, provide updates on incidents or changing situations.
- Remain calm and professional during high-stress or emotional calls, demonstrating empathy while maintaining objectivity.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions and exercises to maintain skills and knowledge of emergency response procedures and protocols.
- Booking in and out inmates.
- Keeping the areas you are working in clean.
- Running personal information for law enforcement and Jail duties.
- Entering and Clearing county warrants.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in emergency response, criminal justice, or related field is a plus.
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations, think quickly, and make decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and comfort with using dispatch software and radio equipment.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a dispatcher or in a related field.
- Familiarity with local geography, streets, and neighborhoods.
- CPR and First Aid Certifications
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and multitasking are essential.
- Will sit for extended periods in a dispatch center, monitoring calls and radio traffic.
