12 Month Position, 1 FTE
6:30AM – 3:00 PM
6 AM-2:30 PM (Winter)
ABOUT HOLT PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
Holt Public Schools is located in the Lansing metropolitan region. It is primarily located in Ingham County with portions in Eaton County. We provide educational programs from Early Childhood through and beyond
12th grade including access to Early College programming and Career and Technical Education. Our current enrollment totals approximately 4,800 students. REQURIED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate.
- Experience and knowledge to make minor electrical and plumbing repairs, such as but not limited to light switches, receptacles, ballasts, sink faucets, traps, flush valves, was rings, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains.
- Experience and knowledge to maintain a successful maintenance program within assigned building, such as, but not limited to, keeping up-to-date records of regular maintenance work completed, maintain inventory of repair parts, establishing a schedule that allows for the inspection of all mechanical equipment monthly.
- Experience and knowledge of all areas of custodial duties related to maintaining a clear and safe teaching and learning environment, such as but not limited to working with your supervisor and building custodial staff to develop a program that will allow for an ongoing evaluation of cleaning products.
- Demonstrated ability in organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, such as but not limited to working well with others to maintain a positive working environment, deal with a variety of situations both positive and negative in a professional manner.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Possess the ability to establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with students, staff, and the public.
- Ability to perform duties within all district policies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write correspondence.
BUILDING CUSTODIAN DUTIES:
- The Custodian of a building is responsible for making sure the building both inside and outside is always maintained in a clean and safe operating condition.
- The building Custodian will maintain daily contact with the building Principal or building office staff.
- All purchases of cleaning or maintenance supplies (unless purchased from another account) must have prior approval from the Director of Facilities.
- The building Custodian will maintain all HVAC equipment by servicing equipment on a regular schedule (minimum of three times a year) and keeping up-to-date records of service performed on each unit.
- The building Custodian will report all custodial injuries to the Facilities Director.
- The building Custodian will report to the building office when he/she is leaving the building. Also, the building Custodian will punch out when leaving and punch back in at their return.
- The building Custodian is responsible to turn in work requests in advance of work being done (unless it is an emergency) and maintain up-to-date records of all building work/repair requests.
- The building Custodian will monitor bathrooms throughout the school day. If necessary, clean or repair as needed. Ex-fans must always be in working order (maintain a daily check on these).
- The building Custodian must notify the Facilities Director/Principal of any unsafe conditions.
- The building Custodian will maintain all custodial equipment in excellent working condition.
- The building Custodian will maintain an inventory of all custodial supplies to clean his/her building.
- The building Custodian will monitor all cleaning supplies to be sure only approved brands are being used by building custodial staff.
- The building Custodian will mow/trim all small lawns on his/her scheduled day.
- The building Custodian will always remove snow and ice from sidewalks and entrances to maintain safe conditions.
- The building Custodian will make minor electrical/plumbing repairs in his/her building. (Example: Light Switch, Light Ballast, Receptacle, Faucet, Drain Trap.)
- The building Custodian will work with the Facilities Director/building Principal, building staff, and students in a positive and helpful manner.
- Assist building custodial staff as needed.
- Organize and distribute daily building use forms to building custodial staff.
- Assist in preventive maintenance program for the building.
- Other duties as requested by the Facilities Director or building Principal.

- The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds such as salt and furniture.
