We are looking for a Technical School Intern - Diesel Service to join our team. This position is an entry-level Truck Shop Intern Technician for HOLT Truck Centers and will be under the guidance of an experienced Shop Service Supervisor. The intern’s primary purpose is to learn and develop as a technician and receive on-the-job training (OJT) with an assigned mentor. This is a paid summer internship. The work hours are flexible within the available schedule of Monday - Saturday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The schedule is to be determined by the Truck Shop Service Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Receive coaching, mentoring, and feedback from leadership
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
- Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
On-the-job training curriculum may include:
- Perform maintenance on various on-highway diesel engines
- Help install, repair, and replace mechanical and electronic components
- Clean and/or lubricate equipment
- Examine and test equipment, components, and parts to ensure the proper functioning
- Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts, using hand or power tools
- Adjust, maintain, and repair equipment and machine components
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- The candidate will be working in inclement environments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Basic computer skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Basic math calculations and the ability to read, write, and understand work instructions
Education and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology program or related Technical program
- Must have basic knowledge of hand tools and shop safety
- Valid Driver’s License
- Basic Computer Skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to work in outside conditions and a shop environment.
Work Environment:
- Frequently works at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
