St. Martin's Publishing Group seeks a Publishing Co-ordinator to support the SVP, Publishing Director and another VP, Associate Publisher with titles across many of the St. Martin's Publishing Group lists. The ideal Publishing Co-ordinator candidate is a detail-oriented, self-starter who can manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively, and is comfortable asking for help when needed. We are looking for a strong organizer who can prioritize assignments while managing multiple requests and queries, which must be responded to in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner. The day-to-day responsibilities include a combination of project support for the publishing team focused on the calendaring, packaging, sales, and growth of new titles on the St. Martin's Press, Griffin, Essentials and Paperbacks imprints. Additional activities include maximizing opportunities for backlist titles, including anniversary editions, movie tie-ins, metadata, and other promotion. The job will include liaising with internal departments such as editorial, design, production, marketing, publicity, and sales, as well as externally with authors and agents. We are looking for someone who is interested in the work that is done to bring a book to market from a business and operational standpoint. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, a keen eye for detail, and an interest in market research and trends.

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities approximately two days a week in our Manhattan office.

What you'll do :

  • Support publishing team in all facets of the publishing process, for ~150 frontlist titles a year
  • Communicate to internal publishing departments, as well as externally with authors, agents and estates
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, including calendar schedules, preparing meeting materials and taking notes
  • Research trends and competition, including sales research on comparative titles (timing, pricing)
  • Identify worthwhile opportunities for renewed promotion of backlist titles, including movie / TV tie-in coordination, and potential reissues
  • Run reports from various systems to pull & analyze sales, category & trend data
  • Track inventory needs for priority titles
  • Help handle special projects to support the overall efforts of the imprint

What you'll bring :

  • 2 years of full time publishing experience, sales and / or marketing experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask
  • Strong time management
  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a team
  • Creative, analytical thinker
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written, used on timely follow-up over email and phone; ability to communicate appropriately across all levels and divisions of the company, as well as with external parties
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a rapidly changing, detail-focused environment
  • Desire to learn new systems and the ability to run reports and maintain databases
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe (PDF), Google Sheets and Excel and an avid interest and ability to learn new applications
  • This role will have an annual salary of $54,000-$58,000.
