Position Purpose: Specialize in assessing and treating patients with complex wounds, ostomies, or continence conditions. Work closely with members of patient care teams to ensure that personalized treatment plans are followed correctly in order to prevent future infection or injury.
What you will do:
*Utilizes clinical skills and knowledge in the assessment of clients' health status assessment of clients' health status (physiologic, psychosocial, emotional, cultural, and spiritual)
*Conducts initial assessment and reassessment of patient/family's WOC needs and develops a specific plan of care to meet those needs with the bedside nurse
*Provides consultation and/or assessment on patients with pressure and non-stageable pressure injuries
*In consultation with the physician, assists the primary nurse in developing an appropriate plan of care for comprehensive wound management
*Uses comprehensive understanding of wound, ostomy and continence anatomy and physiology and continuum of care defined by the national WOC nursing standards
Recommends and develops protocols and clinical pathways to ensure quality WOC care, including prevention of pressure injuries
Intermittently works with medical staff, Nurse Managers, Professional Practice, nursing staff, dietitians, and case managers in multiple hospitals to facilitate and provide basic WOC care and education for inpatients
*Investigates all cases with adverse events related to wounds as requested
*Reviews charts of patients with adverse events related to wounds and ostomy as requested
*Provide education to staff and consultation for patients and their families who are undergoing ostomy surgery, and patients with pre-existing stomas who are having trouble managing their care.
*Consult, assess, and plan initial nursing care plan for patient with post-operative stomas and/or altered skin integrity and provide ongoing support and evaluation
*Conduct quarterly pressure injury prevalence surveys with unit skin champions. Report metrics to quality, professional practice team and nursing leadership and provide ways to offer improvement
*Computer skills in Microsoft office and be adaptable to new software programs; EPIC EMR experience is a plus
*Participates in evaluation of products and new technology for effectiveness and cost to ensure the most cost-effective products are used for patient care.
Minimum qualifications
- BSN required; MSN preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of licensed professional nursing experience in acute care. Minimum of 2 year of experience in wound care/ ostomy management.
- Must possess sound knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and standards of practice as determined by state and federal regulations.
- Must know principles of adult learners
- Must be able to communicate articulately and comprehend written and verbal communications in English.
- Must be able to function and prioritize well within a dynamic work environment.

Licensure/Certifications
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Florida.
- Certification from recognized CWOCN or CWON preferred
- WWC with OMS certification accepted
- Current in Basic Life Support
