Description
Position Objective: Responsible for the liturgical and musical enrichment of the parish by coordinating, planning, training, and overseeing liturgical and musical activities within the parish.
Essential Duties:
A. Liturgy
1. Raise awareness of the liturgical feasts and seasons through the use of music, song, prayer, and environment in collaboration with the pastor, staff and liturgical ministers.
2. Provide training for all liturgical ministers including altar servers, sacristans, lectors, greeters, ushers, extraordinary ministers, cantors, choirs, and instrumental musicians.
3. Compose Prayers of the Faithful for liturgies and special celebrations.
4. Convene and Facilitate seasonal liturgy committee meetings.
5. Coordinate/Plan/Collaborate with pastor and parish staff on special liturgies and sacramental celebrations related to OCIA, Confirmation, First Eucharist, including worship aids and liturgical ministry assignments.
6. Plan and work with Pastor for seasonal celebrations, like Communal Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick during Advent and Lent.
7. Keep sacristies stocked and organized.
B. Musical Direction
1. Coordinate, recruit, maintain and energize the parish handbell choir and adult choir on a weekly basis.
2. Develop and mentor cantors and instrumentalists on a weekly basis.
3. Select appropriate music for both seasonal and specific celebrations of the liturgy.
4. Conduct choir rehearsals and individual rehearsals with cantors and instrumentalists.
C. Art and Environment
1. Supervise, recruit, coordinate, maintain and energize Art and Environment team members with church décor appropriate to the liturgical feasts and seasons.
2. Seek out, purchase, and maintain supplies, fabrics, plants and flowers needed for liturgical seasons and celebrations.
D. Administration
1. Plan and coordinate liturgies, i.e. weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings and sacramental celebrations.
2. Maintain and update schedules for choirs, instrumentalists, and cantors.
3. Maintain choir, cantor and instrumental rosters. Maintain all other liturgical ministry rosters, along with Director of Stewardship and Development.
4. Conduct, attend and send volunteers to workshops/trainings pertaining to liturgical music and liturgy.
5. Plan and oversee the budgets for liturgy, music, and art & environment, in collaboration with the Business Manager.
6. Maintain music library, along with volunteers.
7. Maintain updated copyright procedures and reporting with OneLicense on a weekly basis, along with volunteer.
8. Maintain and replace musical instruments as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Music (Master of Music preferred) or the equivalent in education and experience.
Strong knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy.
Considerable instrumental and vocal skill.
