Holy Family Catholic Community, located in Middletown, MD, seeks candidates for a Director of Music. The Music Director is a dynamic and creative musician passionate about sacred music and liturgical ministry. Holy Family Catholic Community seeks a Music Director to inspire and develop a vibrant, prayerful, and singing congregation. This vital role blends music selection, performance, choir leadership, and collaboration with our pastor, staff, and parishioners to elevate worship through music. With the guidance of the pastor, the Music Director will be responsible for the music ministry and coordinating sacred music at weekend Masses, Holy Days, Sacramental celebrations, funerals and weddings. Rehearse and lead choir for weekend Mass.
We are seeking a passionate and talented Music Director to lead and grow our parish music ministry! This is a full-time position, designed for a dedicated individual eager to learn and grow into a dynamic and impactful role. The Music Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive liturgical music plan, recruiting and expanding choirs—including adult, youth, and children’s choirs—and establishing a youth music ministry and cantor training program. Additionally, they will organize workshops, concerts, and community music events to enrich parish life. There are also opportunities for additional compensation for liturgical events such as funerals and weddings.
Essential Functions
Music Selection & Leadership for Parish Worship
- Select and lead music for three weekend Masses, Holy Days, Triduum, and special liturgical events.
- Coordinate other musicians for various liturgies, including funerals and weddings.
- Produce digital worship aids for weekend Masses and printed aids for special events.
- Organize and support music for monthly evenings of Eucharistic Adoration with Praise & Worship music.
Choir Leadership
- Recruit and rehearse with adult choir weekly.
- Provide training for cantors, accompanists, and instrumentalists, building up musical leaders within our community.
Coordination & Administration
- Prepare and manage the annual liturgical music budget.
- Work closely with the Pastor, parish staff, musicians, and volunteers; including being present in the parish office one day a week for staff meetings and formation, and leading rehearsals at the parish at least one evening a week.
- Serve as a collaborative member of the pastorate team, contributing to planning and decision-making.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sacred Music, Choral Conducting, Music Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience leading music programs in a church or religious setting (preferred), including directing choirs, playing piano, ministering
to people of all ages, and collaborating with clergy and other staff. Those with experience leading music programs outside a religious context will be considered. - Proficiency in conducting, piano, and singing/vocal pedagogy.
- Strong leadership, recruitment, and communication skills are essential.
- Passionate about building a prayerful and engaged worship community and are able to lead prayer in small groups and large gatherings.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.

Range: $40,000 to 52,000, Annualized
