What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Director of Safety and Security position at Holy Family High School?
Holy Family High School is currently seeking an innovative, experienced, and qualified individual for a High School Director of Safety and Security for the 2025-2026 school year. The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for ensuring the safety of all students and staff at Holy Family High School. Qualified candidates have a background in school safety and security protocols, the ability to evaluate and write threat assessments and school safety plans, the ability to implement and uphold modern school safety protocols.
Essential Duties:
- Maintain school's safety manual
- Liaison with Broomfield Police and other law enforcement agencies
- Assist with mental health screenings for students
- Coordinate response to Safe-to-Tell alerts
- Administer all safety and reentry plans for students that are perceived to be a harm to themselves or others
- Supply security and event safety plans
- Provide safety presence at all events where additional security is warranted, coordinate with law enforcement as needed
- Plan and oversee all safety drills
- Assess and plan for building security improvements and maintenance
- Maintain building evacuation plans
- Provide armed response in the event of a mass casualty event
- Coordinate emergency response, evacuation, reunification following a crisis event
- Provide training for safety team and staff
- Any other items related to Safety and Security of the school building, students and staff and grounds not listed above
Qualifications:
- 3 years’ experience of Administrator, Director, Manager, Supervisor, security, law enforcement, or military experience
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
- Must have a current Colorado Concealed Carry Permit
- Excellent organizational, planning and coordination skills
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Good overall physical fitness, eye-hand coordination, hearing, and eyesight
- Criminal background check
- Experience conducting emergency exercises, drills, and staff trainings
- Intermediate knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
Required Certificates, Licenses, And Registrations:
- All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.
- Must complete and pass them all within the first year of employment and maintain certifications through the duration of employment in this position
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and current motor vehicle insurance
- Must complete and pass CPR training annually
- Must complete and pass Basic First Aid and Bleeding Control training annually
- Must possess a State of Colorado concealed weapons permit or do so within six (6) months of employment
- Must initially complete, pass, and qualify with handgun, quarterly
- Employee must provide their own firearm
- Must complete and pass all Active Shooter Training determined by the school annually
- Must complete and pass minimum physical agility test annually
- Must complete any other required training determined by the school
Physical And Mental Demands/Work Environment:
- Flexible hours and possible shift work
- Occasional heavy physical effort (lifting over 50 pounds)
- Extended periods of standing, walking, standing, and/or sitting
- Occasional jogging, running, bending, reaching, and climbing
- May have to use physical force to control a subject or as a means of self-defense or defense of others
- Required to wear a firearm, spare magazine(s), radio, and required uniform to include issued body armor
Management Experience:
- Demonstrated expertise in managing security operations, including risk assessments, emergency response protocols, and incident management
- Demonstrated experience and de-escalation techniques
- Demonstrated ability to safely resolve critical incidents
- Proficient in developing and implementing comprehensive emergency response plans, including drills and exercises to test preparedness. Ensure that emergency response plans consider the needs of all individuals, including those with disabilities, language barriers, or unique cultural requirements
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of cultural differences to effectively interact with a diverse campus community
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with local law enforcement agencies and emergency services providers
- Collaborate with different departments to promote a culture of safety and security
- Communicate effectively when interacting with students, staff, faculty, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify security vulnerabilities and design and implement effective solutions
- High ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Utilize data collection and analysis to identify potential disparities in security incidents and work towards equitable solutions
- Preference given to Catholic candidates
- Salary commensurate with degree and experience
