Physical Education/Health Teacher
Reports to: Director of Specialized Learning Education
Location: Specialized Learning
Hours: 9-month, full-time, salaried position
MISSION AND NEED
Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
General Statement of Duties: The Physical Education Teacher demonstrates appropriate teaching techniques for the instruction of physical education and health. Contribute to the growth and development of the education program.
Essential Functions:
- Promotes the Mission and Philosophy of Holy Family Institute
- Manages crisis situations through utilization of skills learned in agency-approved training
- Provides instruction in physical and health education
- Completes required documentation in keeping with agency standards
- Assists in the coordination of student’s schedule
- Maintains a positive working relationship with parents and fellow staff
- Organizes materials and adapts lessons for the specific academic needs of assigned students.
- Evaluates student’s progress and provides meaningful feedback and positive reinforcement.
- Develops skills to enhance job performance
- Adheres to other requests as indicated by supervisor
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education and a PA Teaching certificate in Physical Education.
- 1 years of experience
- Experience managing client behavior
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
