School Security Officer

Reports to: Vice-President of Facilities, Security, and Safety
Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday

Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
General Statement of Duties: The School Security Officer will ensure security and safety of the campus by making rounds, monitoring visitors and reviewing video cameras for unusual activities. This role will monitor additional activities related to overall building and ground safety and security. The School Security Office will send end of shift reports to their supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Promotes a positive professional image of the agency through interpersonal interactions and appearance
- Maintains professional, supportive relationship with all agency staff, volunteers, local community members, outside contractors, and vendors, and students
- Documents and reports all incidents per agency policies and procedures
- Completes regular rounds of the campus
- Notifies appropriate management about concern or potential risks
- Conducts and generates written reports
- Responds quickly to and handles fire alarms and emergencies
- Corrects minor safety hazards
- Monitors card access systems, video surveillance, and two-way radio systems
- Checks and locks facilities and creates a record of any open/unlocked doors
- Monitors metal detectors
- Secures all exits, doors, and windows at the end of operation
- Contacts local law enforcement or emergency response agencies as needed
- Attends required trainings and staff meetings
- Promptly reports civil or criminal convictions, charges, arrests, investigations, or adjudications that may arise since staff member’s last background investigation. This includes but is not limited to sexual abuse in a prison, jail, holding facility, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, other institution (as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997), or care provider facility; conviction of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or who was civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity.
- Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2-3 years’ experience in a school security setting or previous law enforcement SRO certification preferred
- Must be proficient with technology including operating security cameras and computer software
- Must have or be able to obtain Act 33, 34 and FBI Clearances.
- Must have license and be able to drive a vehicle
- Must be 21 years or older
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Capable of frequently climbing stairs and other activities that involve physical exertion (i.e. walking hallways, walking across campus)
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
