A Brief Overview

The Director of the Institute of Clinical Research at Holy Name Medical Center leads the strategic, and operational aspects of the organization's research initiatives. This role involves fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration to advance clinical research aligned with Holy Name's mission. The Director is responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the Institute, enhancing its research capabilities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Director of the Institute of Clinical Research provides administrative leadership and will be responsible for effective planning, oversight, and coordination of research projects within Holy Name. This position provides support for the expansion of research programs, ensures effective coordination of research, and monitors the progress and performance of all aspects of assigned areas of responsibility, including responsive interactions with state and federal partners, compliance with regulatory requirements, budgetary oversight, including monitoring and tracking projects; grant and contract development and negotiations; and, project reporting. The Director of Research must be able to organize complex projects, provide attention to detail, and communicate effectively. They manage the day-to-day research operations and objectives in support of assigned projects, ensure effective and efficient workflows, and adhere to quality standards for staff, program, and self. This position maintains a working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations and the Code of Conduct for human research and works with other groups responsible for information technology support, data management, regulatory compliance, and professional development.

What you will do

  • Strategic Planning and Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a strategic vision and goals for the Institute of Research, aligned with Holy Name’s mission and values.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate research into the institution’s overall strategic plan.
    • Lead efforts to expand the Institute's clinical research portfolio, including industry-sponsored trials, investigator-initiated studies, and grant-funded projects.
    • Identify and prioritize research areas that align with community health needs and Holy Name’s clinical strengths.
  • Research Program Development:
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of clinical research programs and initiatives
    • Foster partnerships with research networks, and industry sponsors to expand research opportunities.
    • Develop and promote interdisciplinary collaboration among departments to enhance research output.
  • Operational and Financial Oversight:
    • Manage the operational aspects of the Institute, including staffing, resource allocation, and infrastructure development.
    • Develop and oversee the Institute’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
    • Identify funding opportunities, secure grants, and support for research programs.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Ethics:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations governing clinical research, including IRB standards and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
    • Establish and maintain ethical standards and practices in all research activities.
    • Serve as Director of the Holy Name HRPP, providing oversight of the Holy Name Human Research Participant Protections Program.
    • Monitor and address potential risks related to research integrity and compliance.
    • Leverage data analytics and technology to support research initiatives and improve operational efficiency.
    • Collaborate with IT and data management teams to implement systems for tracking research progress, outcomes, and compliance.
  • Other Functions:
    • Support the GME program


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field required
  • Master's degree in Business Management or Ph.D in a science-related field preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • 4-6 years Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in research, including three (3) years of business management and leadership experience.

  • CCRP - Certified Clinical Research Professional SOCRA/ACRP upon hire required
