A Brief Overview
The Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Physician Office Practice is responsible for all clinical and technical operations in the PFT lab. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to daily staffing needs, providing clinical education to patients and families, addressing patient care issues when they present. The RCP will assist as a liaison to transition patient from the setting to home or alternate sites of care.

What You Will Do
- Plan, direct and monitor all clinical and technical operations for the PFT lab and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program within the physician office practice, to assure optimal and safe patient care.
- Assure compliance with Federal, State, Local and professional regulations and practice guidelines.
- Participate in professional organization, state and national level.
- Perform various PFT testing - spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity, MVV, MIPS/MEPS, and Methacholine Challenge for all age groups (pediatric, adult, geriatrics).
- Perform additional Respiratory procedures such as nebulizer therapy, Vest therapy, inhaler education, ambulation for oxygen saturation/requirements, Cardiopulmonary stress testing, and other related respiratory/pulmonary procedures as requested.
- Perform arterial blood gas puncture and analysis on patients as requested.
- Provide patient/ family education with appropriate age specific learning principles.
- Act as clinical liaison with physicians and other departments to optimize patient care in the office setting.
- Enter physician provided interpretations to ensure patient reports and orders are completed.
- Scan completed PFT reports into patient's electronic medical record, and fax when necessary to other healthcare providers.
- Perform chart audit to ensure completion of data entry with appropriate forms completed.
- Order pulmonary lab supplies and medications as necessary.
- Assist with insurance authorizations and specialty pharmacies ordering Xolair/Nucala for patient requiring injections.
- Assist in competency reviews for PFT.
- Orient and train staff assigned to PFT and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, on all procedures and processes.
- Work closely with information technology to provide or develop necessary applications and reporting systems.
- Generate patient charges for services performed.
- Assist with billing audits and reviews when necessary.
- Report progress and/or issues to the Respiratory Director for immediate resolution.
- Perform insurance clearance and eligibility for Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients, when needed.
- Assist director in development of statistics and budget planning.
- Attend meetings at director's request.
- Assist department director in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
- Assume all other duties as assigned.
- Associate's Degree Graduate of a 2-yr Associate degree Respiratory Therapy program approved by the NBRC Required or
- Bachelor's Degree 4-yr Bachelor degree Respiratory Therapy program approved by the NBRC Preferred
- 1-3 years PFT and Respiratory Clinical Experience Preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with physicians, patients, family members and other health care personnel
- Knowledge of patient billing and experience interacting with insurers, homecare companies and office staff to obtain referrals and insurance clearance.
- Strong patient assessment skills.
- Professional and technical skills to perform as a staff Respiratory Care Practitioner and Pulmonary Function Technologist.
- RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of New Jersey Upon Hire Required and
- RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist Registered Respiratory Therapist with NBRC credential Upon Hire Required and
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Basic Life Support American Heart BLS Certification Upon Hire Required
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) Upon Hire Preferred
