Holy Spirit Catholic School Principal Responsibilities
The principal shall administer the school to the best of his/her ability, performing all reasonable duties as may be required of a principal for the success of the school. The principal shall comply with all established policies, rules and regulations expressed in the Diocese of Cheyenne Handbook of policies for Catholic schools, and the policies of Holy Spirit Catholic School Employee Handbook. The principal’s duties shall include but not be limited to the following specific responsibilities:
- Coordinate the development of the educational program, curriculum and curriculum outlines of the school
- Hire, direct, supervise and evaluate the faculty and staff
- Regularly attend school advisory board meetings and Home & School meetings
- Implement school and diocesan educational policies, and administrative rules and regulations, relating to the school
- Implement and enforce school policies regarding student attendance, conduct, health, safety and discipline
- Coordinate the admission of new students applying for entrance to the school and implement school admission policies
- Coordinate all school related and non-school related activities within the school building
- Exercise decisive leadership in a just, consistent and fair manner
- Act as liaison “go to person if any problems arise” between the school board and the parent-teacher organization and all other school committees
- Perform other duties as directed by the board and work closely with the Diocesan Director of Catholic School Leadership to complete all duties pertaining to the status of Holy Spirit Catholic School Catholic School as a Catholic school in the Diocese of Cheyenne
- Promote safety education and conform to applicable governmental fire, health, safety and civil defense regulations
- Work with professional and community organizations for the maintenance and improvement of a sound health program in the school
- Account for all money received from student tuition and that payments are completed per guidelines of tuition contract and ensures goods or services are not provided in exchange for tuition payment, parish subsidies, activity fees, fines, gifts or other sources in accord with a central plan of accounts under the supervision of the Finance Committee
- Prepare the annual budget of the school in cooperation with the Advisory Board and the School Finance Council, and operate the school within the established budget
- Prepare agendas with the board chair for school advisory board meetings
- Work closely with the Holy Spirit Catholic School Leadership Core Group
The principal’s responsibilities as supervisor of instruction shall include but not be limited to the following:
- Advertise faculty openings in a timely manner
- In addition to formal evaluations, provide appropriate encouragement and support for teachers, especially new or inexperienced faculty members
- Develop a system to review regularly and systematically textbook selection and curriculum development for the purpose of providing the best instructional materials possible within the school's budget limits
- Plan and develop relevant, comprehensive, and professional in-service training programs within the school's budget limits
- Maintain necessary standards for school accreditation in consultation with the Diocese of Cheyenne
- Facilitate the timely signing of teacher contracts for the next school year for teachers who have returned a letter of intent to teach the following year
- Intervene appropriately in a teacher's classroom when that teacher's classroom management, methods or needs so require, and assist the teacher in correcting or improving the situation that necessitated the principal's intervention
- Coordinate other items involving the school, including maintenance items, school lunch program, etc.
- Coordination with Holy Spirit Catholic Community, School District #1, accountants, attorneys, insurance agents, any other partners as needed
In carrying out her/his duties, the principal shall provide academic and spiritual leadership to: (i) direct instructional excellence, (ii) give leadership in building the Christian faith community in the School, (iii) show respect for Catholic belief, (iv) work for the achievement of the goals of Catholic education, and (v) aid in the Christian formation of the students by exemplifying in her/his own actions the characteristics of Christian living.
Principal shall work cooperatively with the pastor of the local parish and the school advisory board in administering the school, and the principal shall also maintain a cooperative working relationship with other area pastors to ensure the spiritual care and ongoing spiritual formation of the school community.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
- 2-5 years of leadership or administrative experience in Catholic education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Effective communication skills with students, parents, faculty, staff, and stakeholders
