Summary:
Holy Spirit Catholic School is looking to hire a Kindergarten teacher who understands the developmental progressions of this early childhood age. The candidate must be able to teach appropriate social and emotional development, providing a foundation of acceptable behavior. In addition, this person must know how to teach emergent readers and lay the foundation of phonemic awareness to teach students how to read. The teacher will be able to develop number sense in students in an atmosphere that will develop a love for learning, friendship, and God.
The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is to be responsible to the principal for the carrying out of policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the immediate contact with students and parents.
Candidates must:
- Be knowledgeable of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
- Be knowledgeable of curriculum, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation.
- Be knowledgeable of child development, learning, and behavior
- be skilled in teaching daily phonics
- Be able to administer reading benchmarks to determine students' reading levels
- Be able to manage student behavior
- Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
- Be able to work well with others in a school community
- Be skilled handling multiple tasks simultaneously
- Be skilled in job appropriate technology
- Be skilled in critical thinking and planning
Position Responsibilities:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Direct and evaluate the learning experience of the student in both curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Provide guidance to student that promotes his or her welfare and Christian educational development; refer students with problems to those qualified to help.
- Carry out carefully constructed lesson plans and maintain documentation of instructional planning.
- Carry out disciplinary policies of the school.
- Attend and participate in faculty, and Archdiocesan meetings.
- Attend and participate in the scheduled number of In-Service days required by TCCBED and the Archdiocese.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other professionals.
- Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff.
- Keep records of attendance, check home assignments, grade papers and complete report cards.
- Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Supervise arrival and dismissal of students and assists in the supervision of students as needed.
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree and a Texas teaching certificate for the appropriate level
- 2 years experience teaching kindergarten and to be Catholic
- Religion certification is also beneficial.
- Science of Reading certification is beneficial.
