What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Assistant position at Holy Trinity?
Position Summary:
The Daisy Lane School is the Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten division of Holy Trinity School, which is located in Glenn Dale, Maryland. Qualified candidates for this position will be enthusiastic about facilitating developmentally appropriate education in our preschool program. They must possess a creative can-do spirit, along with the ability to work collaboratively with students, peers, and parents. Lastly, they must also possess a positive attitude and be able to pivot in a classroom setting that changes daily.
The Preschool Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Head of The Daisy Lane School. Note that the Preschool Assistant Teacher will be expected to perform other duties, related to those outlined below, as assigned.
Instructional Duties:
- Work directly with the Lead Teacher to prepare lesson plans that meet the standards set forth in the preschool curriculum.
- Assume the role of Lead Teacher in the absence of that individual.
- Assist the Lead Teacher with activities that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of the students.
- Assist students in developing and demonstrating social-emotional skills throughout the school day, by using such strategies as practicing, repeating, and modeling the desired behavior.
- Support the routines, expectations, and discipline set forth by The Daisy Lane School, as a whole, and those that may be specific to the classroom.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents, peers, and other staff members.
- Meet monthly with level team members to plan themes, activities, and art projects.
- Prepare and implement daily art and academic center activities, in coordination with the Lead Teacher.
- Provide insights and observations, as they relate to the progress of each student within the classroom.
- Interact, in a positive manner, with students and encourage their involvement in a variety of daily activities.
Professional Duties:
- Assist Lead Teacher in building a safe, healthy, and supportive classroom environment.
- Respect confidentiality.
- Actively participate and contribute to school scheduled parent-teacher conferences.
- Show warmth, care, and fairness to all students and build strong relationships with each of them.
- Create a climate of respect in the classroom and beyond.
- Work effectively with students, parents, peers, and administrators.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of punctuality and attendance, including school-related events.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 90-Hour Child Care Certification is preferred.
- At least two years’ experience working in a preschool or kindergarten setting is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience working with the Responsive Classroom model is a plus.
- Successfully complete and pass both state and federal background checks.
- CPR Certified.
