Founded in 2005, Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS) offers a high-quality public education in grades PreK-8th. The school mission is to promote the joy of learning and to prepare children for success as students, citizens, and workers by providing them with a high-quality public education. Having recently completed a comprehensive strategic and academic plan, HCCS teachers are driven to support diverse learners through a multitude of ways to present content and assess performance. Moreover, HCCS recently completed construction of a new 22,000 sq. ft. wing, adding four new classrooms and a new 16,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. HCCS is raising the bar for what’s possible.
Positional Purpose:
The Cafeteria Worker is responsible and accountable for the efficient delivery of food and beverage services to students and staff members by adopting high service and hygiene standards. The Cafeteria Worker is actively involved in the day-to-day tasks and duties involved in food service. They ensure they follow all sanitation and health regulations and that meals meet nutritional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Food Services Program:
- Develops service and hygiene standards for the food services program;
- Implements efficient delivery of food and beverage services to students and staff members ensuring proper display and storage of all cafeteria items;
- Maintains separation of cleaning supplies from food items;
- Provides a suitable menu for students and staff members; ensures quality and food temperature requirements are maintained.
- Other Duties As Needed: Any other duties and tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.

- Maintains positive relations with colleagues, administration, and staff;

- Follows instructions and responds to management direction;
- Requests support as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/ GED
- Previous experience in a cafeteria or school (Preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures;
- High degree of professionalism

While Performing Duties: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, bend, squat, knell, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. Employee moves about the building and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks, etc. Employees occasionally to frequently use a whiteboard, which can require grasping whiteboard pens, reaching at, below, or above shoulder height and may require trunk or neck rotation to look back. Employee may have duties involving walking on even or uneven surfaces. Employee may use computers, overhead projectors, TV, VCR, etc., which may require an approximately 10 pound force to push or pull equipment. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc. occasionally to frequently. Employee must see and hear on a continuous basis as well as speak frequently. Positions vary from standing, sitting, walking, etc. On some occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. over smooth or uneven surfaces.
