Who We Are:
Founded in 2005, Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS) offers a high-quality public education in grades PreK-8th. The school mission is to promote the joy of learning and to prepare children for success as students, citizens, and workers by providing them with a high-quality public education. Having recently completed a comprehensive strategic and academic plan, HCCS teachers are driven to support diverse learners through a multitude of ways to present content and assess performance. Moreover, HCCS recently completed construction of a new 22,000 sq. ft. wing, adding four new classrooms and a new 16,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. HCCS is raising the bar for what’s possible.
Positional Purpose:
The Paraprofessional-Classroom is responsible and accountable for providing students with a safe, loving, stimulating, and nurturing environment. The Paraprofessional-Classroom works closely with classroom teachers and the school administration team. The Paraprofessional-Classroom ensures the school's image, brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Classroom Management:
- Executes appropriate and positive discipline strategies in the classroom when directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assists in the supervision of the students during lunch, recess and when students are entering or leaving buses, or while otherwise on school premises, including duty with extended day before and/or regular school hours within the duty day as directed by the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Applies school and classroom rules consistently and effectively.
- Utilizes preventative discipline when directed by the classroom teacher;
- Motivates and Engages student;
- Communicates expectations to students early;
- Establishes and maintains a positive classroom environment conductive to learning.
- Manages emergency situations confidently calmly;
- Supervises students within the school setting and on school grounds
Student Academic Achievement:
- Supports and assists the classroom teacher in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the SABIS® curriculum and philosophy.
- Willingness to lead classroom activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assists the classroom teacher in creating smooth transitions from one activity to another.
- Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation of materials and activities for the classroom.
Professional Relations:
- Strives to meet the individual needs of all children in each area of development including their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs.
- Motivates students to perform well and responds promptly to student needs.
- Develop and maintains positive relations with the classroom teacher, colleagues, administration, and staff.
- Inspires respect and trust.
- Maintains a positive attitude.
- Follows directions and responds to management direction.
- Requests support as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree
- Must possess specific skills and knowledge in reading, writing, mathematics and instruction to be
- considered qualified to assist in instruction
- Experience working in a school environment preferred.

Typical hours are 7:45am – 3:20pm, with twice/month Wednesday staff meetings until 4:30pm.
