General Description of Duties: Under direction of the Director of the Office for Students with Disabilities and Deaf Services, this position is to coordinate programs, activities, academic strategies and accommodations to ensure that students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing have equal access to college programs, activities and services. (Human Resources oversees all faculty/staff accommodations; however, faculty/staff who are Deaf receive interpreting/captioning accommodations through OSD & Deaf Services.) This position performs educational, administrative, budgeting, communications and community partnerships work. The position is also responsible for administering the college’s Deaf Services program, interpreting/implementing college policies and federal/state laws supporting Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals, determining program eligibility, determining reasonable accommodation, and providing information/guidance for compliance with applicable laws and policies. In addition, the Coordinator of Deaf Services will promote Deaf Awareness to the campus and wider community, as well as coordinate independent contractors such as ASL/English interpreters, C-Print captionists and professional note takers.

  1. Coordinates support as well as ensures communication access for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, faculty and staff in all facets of the College.
  2. Serve as an advisor and advocate on behalf of Deaf/HoH students.
  3. Maintain appropriate records and data of student caseload using platforms such as Maxient, EAB Navigate, Online Services, DegreeWorks and Banner.
  4. Monitor progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings and communication, responding to students’ questions, concerns and needs. Connect students to support services (e.g., tutoring, El Centro, ALANA, Thrive), as needed.
  5. Recruit / maintain active list of interpreters and captionists. Update and/or develop policies/procedures for interpreting and captioning, as needed. 
  6. Schedule ASL/English interpreters and C-Print captionists, depending on the communication needs of Deaf students, faculty and staff for classroom and non-classroom needs. 
  7. Coordinate and budget for annual contracts, review bi-weekly payment vouchers submitted by interpreters/captionists, submit timesheet information to the Business Office for approval and payments. 
  8. Maintain connection with Massachusetts Ability (formerly Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission) regarding shared students.
  9. Provide consultation and resources to faculty, staff, students and college community members regarding Deaf Services. 
  10. Organize community activities / help to foster a sense of belonging for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, employees and visitors to the campus. 
  11. Maintain a working relationship with HCC’s Deaf Studies Program.
  12. Participate in shared governance committees as well as other committees, task forces, and sub-committees of the College, as required by the MCCC contract. 
REQUIRED:
  • Master’s Degree in Deaf Studies, ASL/English Interpreting, Deaf Education, Rehabilitation: Deaf, Human Services: Deaf, and/or a Deaf-related field, completed by August 15, 2025; 
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience and/or training working with college-age Deaf/disabled students providing support services and advocacy within a college setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Fluency in both American Sign Language and English (written and/or spoken) and excellent writing skills; 
  • Strong, proven connection with the Deaf community and with private and public organizations of the Deaf, including knowledge of community and national resources related to Deaf services;
  • National certification – RID or NAD National Interpreter Certification and/or BEI Basic Certification and/or a score of at least 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment, with a minimum of 5 years professional interpreting experience;
  • Strong attention to detail, including experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing community college students; and,
  • Experience working successfully with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

PREFERRED:  
  • A working familiarity with technology used by the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community, including the VideoPhone, Assistive Listening Devices, closed captioning, remote interpreting, C-Print captioning, video relay service, etc.; 
  • Knowledge of disability rights and culture; 
  • Maxient, Banner, Degreeworks, and EAB Navigate experience; 
  • Understanding of universal/inclusive design concepts and experience with implementation; and,
  • Experience presenting information to individuals and groups.
Full Time, MCCC Unit position

Salary:  Grade 6; Minimum $77,358 - $86,224/year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Full State benefits package.
