Description: The HPS Extended School Year (ESY) Program is for students in grades PK- 12 who qualify for extended year services per their IEP's. The goal of the program is to prevent regression of learned and/or progressing skills during the Summer months.
Locations for this summer are: Donahue School (Preschool, K-2 ABL/RISE), Kelly School (3-5 ABL/RISE), Morgan (1-2, 3-5) Sullivan School (6-8 ABL, TIP, SHINE), Jericho (Inclusion), or Transitions Academy depending on students' IEP needs, district needs, and/or grade level. The HPS ESY Program runs from Monday, 7/7/25-Thursday 8/7/24 from 8:45 am-1:15 pm. There will be a required staff orientation day on Thursday, 6/26/25, with an optional additional prep on Friday, 6/27/25 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm.

If called in, the ESY Special Education Teacher Substitute should be expected to
The primary function of the ESY Teacher is to provide specialized instruction to students who require Extended School Year (ESY) services per IEP. Some settings will also have peer models and/or student volunteers. The ESY Teacher will create and implement daily lesson plans related to IEP goals/objectives, and implement IEP accommodations. The ESY Teacher will also oversee their paraprofessionals and collaborate with related service providers to ensure effective ESY programming. The ESY teacher will maintain data collection, and create progress reports. The ESY teacher will work with all IEP Team members to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all of their students. The ESY Teacher answers directly to the ESY Site Supervisor(s), Special Education Director of Intensive Services, and/or Chief of Pupil Services.

Responsibilities
- Participates in Staff Orientation Day on Thursday 6/26/25, with option for additional prep on Friday 6/27/25.
- Sets up classroom environment and materials conducive to student and IEP needs, as needed.
- Creates and implements daily schedule, based on students' IEP's.
- Creates and implements daily lesson plans and BSPS (as applicable), based on students' IEP's and IEP accommodations
- Creates and organizes visual supports and other materials to ensure an effective learning environment
- Supervises and trains classroom paraprofessionals
- Supervises safe and efficient arrival and departure of ESY transportation
- Supervises student safety and engages in positive reinforcement strategies to ensure a safe and productive learning environment
- Oversees and maintains data collection and IEP progress reporting
- Communicates and collaborates with ESY Site Supervisor(s) and all IEP team members to ensure effective implementation of ESY, as per IEP's.
- Engages in daily communication with families, and maintains availability to answer questions and troubleshoot concerns
- Other responsibilities, as assigned by ESY Site Supervisor(s), Special Education Director of Intensive Services, and Chief of Pupil Services
- Teaching certification in moderate or severe special needs preferred
- 1-2 years experience in ESY teaching preferred
- 1-2 years experience in supervising special education classroom paraprofessionals, preferred
- Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
- Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
- Other duties as assigned
- Strong knowledge of IEP implementation and special education processes
- Effective leadership abilities in overseeing special education classroom staff and students receiving ESY services.
- Strong organizational skills pertaining to both paperwork and daily classroom oversight
- Effective problem-solving abilities that include: teamwork and communication with all IEP staff and ESY Site Supervisor, troubleshooting day to day issues, and planning ahead to prevent issues.
