The Veterans Home at Holyoke is a state-funded, fully accredited health care facility that offers veterans quality health care, including full-time residential accommodations, and provides educational and social services for Veterans in the Commonwealth. The Veterans Home at Holyoke is staffed by approximately 330 administrators, clinicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, skilled trade, dietary staff, housekeeping staff, contractors, consultants and general administrative personnel. The tradition of service to the veterans of Massachusetts is surpassed only by a continued commitment to excellence in care for those who are in need now and in the future. The Veterans Home at Holyoke is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Dietary Department. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic and passionate about building meaningful relationships and can provide outstanding service to our Veteran resident and staff populations. The individual holding this position will work in our Canteen and will prepare and serve various food items to our veterans, staff and visitors.
Schedule is 2:00pm-6:00pm 5 days per week with alternating weekend schedule. Please note this is 24 hour/7 days a week long-term care facility and as a result, the Veterans Home at Holyoke may require this individual to be present during nontraditional hours when circumstances dictate the operational need
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Brews coffee, prepares soup of the day, prepares salads, and a variety of sandwiches to satisfy customer demands.
2. Operates grill microwave and soft serve machine.
3. Cleans Canteen area and sanitizes equipment as necessary.
4. Performs cash reconciliation of Canteen and lottery registers.
5. Communicates with vendors, maintains an adequate inventory and orders merchandise and supplies as needed.
6. Maintains accurate accounting for all sales daily utilizing cash register.
7. Temps all prepared foods and records temperatures on logs
8. Records refrigerator and freezer temperatures on logs.
9. Enters work orders in CAMIS to report any equipment malfunction.
10. Able to deal tactfully with coworkers, Veterans and other customers.
11. Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.
12. Other duties as required.
- Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in handling, preparing and cooking food.
- Considerable knowledge of the sanitary standards and safety precautions applicable to kitchens.
- Ability to prepare and serve food.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to operate a cash register and handle money
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. ServSafe certificate is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON THE JOB:
1. Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the Canteen.
2. Ability to operate the lottery machine.
3. Ability to operate the soft serve machine
