Home for Good Dog Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization located in Berkeley Heights, NJ. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 5 years of Veterinary Technician experience and have a strong knowledge of animal shelter diseases and their treatments.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and complete medical paperwork and intake forms for all dogs entering and leaving the Home for Good Dog Rescue foster program, including vaccinations, medications, and heartworm/flea & tick preventatives.
- Maintain control of all medication on the premises, including an accurate inventory of medications dispensed and needed.
- Read fecals via manual floats and Imagyst test machines. Experience and knowledge of parasite identification under a microscope.
- Identify common animal shelter diseases, including Demodectic and Sarcoptic Mange, Parvovirus, Kennel Cough, etc.
- Administer vaccinations/injections (SQ, IM, IV) and treatments for animal shelter diseases.
- Ability to draw blood and place an IV catheter.
- Liaise with the Veterinarian of record when necessary.
- Schedule, organize, and follow up regarding spay/neuter appointments with adopters at partner hospitals. Maintain proper documentation and spreadsheets of all.
- Respond to adopter and foster medical inquiries via email and phone calls on an as-needed basis.
- Transport dogs to veterinarians and spay/neuter appointments on an as-needed basis.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of Veterinary Technician experience.
- New Jersey Veterinary Technician certification preferred.
- Ability to multitask, be self-sufficient, organized, and able to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Flexibility and adaptability to the fast-paced, ever-changing rescue environment.
- Availability to answer medical questions via phone when an emergency arises for a dog in foster care.
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday - 10 am to 6 pm - about 25 hours/week expected.
