Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Life Skills Trainer to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with individuals with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, to help them develop essential life skills. Your primary focus will be on fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for those you support. This position requires a strong commitment to caregiving and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals with disabilities in various settings, including home and community environments.
- Assist clients in developing daily living skills such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household management.
- Implement individualized training programs tailored to each client's unique needs and goals.
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure proper documentation of medication administration.
- Facilitate social interactions and community engagement opportunities for clients.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including special education staff and behavioral health specialists, to create comprehensive support plans.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress and communicate updates to families and team members.
- Drive clients to appointments or community activities as needed, ensuring their safety during transportation.
Experience
- Previous experience in direct support or caregiving roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with special education practices and behavioral health strategies is a plus.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly those on the autism spectrum, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with clients, families, and team members.
- A valid driver's license is required for transporting clients as part of your duties.
- Training or certification in medication administration is beneficial but not mandatory; training will be provided as needed.
