The Assistant Plant Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing plant in Norwood, MA. This position supports the Senior Director, Manufacturing in overseeing daily production activities, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. As well as direct responsibility for the Hot Dog operation. As we are a quickly growing company, it's important to emphasize that your role may adapt to meet the evolving needs of our business including additional responsibilities such as warehousing, operations training, sanitation, and staff scheduling. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of food manufacturing processes, and a passion for operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Directly oversees Hot Dog operation and staff.
- Direct, drive and manage plant operations for production with a focus on operating efficiency (OEE) and SQF (Safe Quality Food) production.
- Act as the change leader, implement, lead, and support a lean manufacturing culture that aligns to the annual business plan.
- Coach, direct and mentor staff to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner, reducing waste, and producing the highest level of quality of product.
- Collaborate closely with R&D and marketing to commercialize products that both win in the marketplace as well as deliver profit to the business.
- Maintain an engaged and team-oriented workforce to meet business demands.
- Communicate potential and actual food safety issues to key personnel to initiate the corrective action process.
- Collaborate closely with the supply chain team in short and long-term production scheduling.
- Work in conjunction with maintenance leadership on asset prioritization and allocation of maintenance resources.
- Lead and coordinate activities tied to strategic equipment installations and initiatives.
- Develop, own, and execute department budgets.
- Lead of yield and labor management. Drive improvements through coordination and policy management.
- Drive cost effective systems of control over operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and salaries through expanded use of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and partnering with finance.
- Ensures that all manufacturing operations are conducted in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
- Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
- Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
- Track progress of yields, labor, and all related expenses. Uses metrics or develops metrics to drive data driven decision making.
- Ensure plant personnel engagement with clear and consistent communication.
- Oversee cultural change initiatives and continually seek improvement of competitive edge of the plant operations.
- Collaborate closely with HR and staff scheduling to ensure consistent execution of key policies. Build a culture of accountability and empower management competencies.
- Responsible for sanitation including : SSOP's, workflow, contracts, and personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Direct backup for Norwood Plant Manager.
- In their absence, the Operations Manager will perform their duties.
