What are the responsibilities and job description for the On Call Labor and Delivery Nurse/Midwife position at Home service?
We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Nurse or midwife for a temporary on-call position to assist when a patient goes into labor. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical judgment, be able to recognize signs of distress during childbirth, and provide emotional and physical support throughout the labor process.
This role is non-medical liability—you will not be held medically responsible for outcomes but are expected to assist, observe, and provide informed guidance during labor and delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Be on-call and available to assist when labor begins.
- Monitor and recognize signs of potential complications.
- Provide reassurance, support, and guidance to the patient and their birth team.
- Respect and comply with the patient’s birth plan and preferences as long as they are medically safe.
- Work collaboratively with the Doula and other birth team members, if present.
- Communicate effectively and offer informed recommendations if needed.
- Work within the birthing environment, whether at home or in a medical facility.
Requirements:
- Licensed RN with Labor and Delivery experience (minimum of 10 years preferred).
- Strong ability to assess and identify signs of distress or complications.
- Comfortable working in a non-hospital setting, if applicable.
- Must understand that this is a non-medically liable role.
- Compassionate, calm under pressure, and excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to support patient-centered care and adhere to the birth plan while collaborating with Doulas and other birth professionals.
Compensation:
$1,500 for the entire job
