The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Under the direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 3, the incumbent will supervise the daily activities of the Central Regional Investigations team.Duties included, but not limited to the following: •Supervises Fire Protection Specialist 1 and administrative staff assigned to the Investigation Branch, including evaluation of response and instructional assignments. •Provides technical consultation with Fire Protection Specialist 1 personnel in their mission to provide services to the client group.•Conducts administrative and technical review of work product including reports of findings related to fire investigation. •Supervises the administration of various Branch programs including but not limited to; burn injury reporting, arson laboratory improvement program, criminal history inquiries, certification, as well as development and update of various curriculum and special presentations.•Obtains certification and performs the duties and responsibilities of a New York State Peace Officer. •Serves as liaison between state agencies, fire departments and other county and state officials during the preparation and implementation of emergency response plans including Fire Mutual Aid and Mobilization Disaster Declarations and Arson Control.•Provides on-scene technical support to staff and interact with various local officials during large-scale and/or high-profile incidents. •Assists municipal, county, and state officials with arson control planning measures, as well as ensuring adequate response capabilities for such incidents.•Reviews curricula, lesson plans, instructional materials, and public education materials for content, relevance, and accuracy. •Reviews student evaluations and instructional staff recommendations to identify areas for course improvements. •Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels’ staff, approves and manages leaves, prepares, train, and educates staff, and participates in the interview and selection process. •Supervises and accepts special assignments in areas pertinent to the unit’s operations and protocols.•Performs other duties and special projects as required.Work schedule may vary based on operational needs.
