General Function: Responsible work involved in the enforcement of applicable city codes, regulations, and ordinances as they relate to the health, housing, and safety of the public.A Code Compliance Officer II is tasked with annual inspections for all business tax receipt locations within the City of Homestead, acts as a liaison with the Development Services Department, and acts as a liaison with other departments for city-wide task forces or other city-wide initiatives.A Code Compliance Officer II works primarily in the field, focusing on identifying potential violations of city code and initiating actions to ensure compliance. This role involves regular interaction with the public, answering questions regarding code requirements, and responding to citizen complaints in this area.In addition to field duties, the Code Compliance Officer II is responsible for providing comprehensive training for Code Compliance Officer I, ensuring they are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively. This includes assisting in developing training materials with the Compliance and Enforcement Manager, conducting training sessions, and mentoring new staff as they transition into their roles.Work is performed with considerable independence; however, there is the possibility of coordinating activities with other departmental personnel and/or consulting with the department head on more difficult cases.Reports To: Compliance & Enforcement ManagerSupervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Receive complaints from the public regarding possible violations of the city code; investigates complaints and initiates follow-up activities.Conducts annual inspections for all business tax receipts within the City of Homestead to ensure businesses are acting within the scope of their permitted uses.Acts as liaison with the Development Services Department and conducts inspections for building and zoning related issues when necessary.Acts as liaison and possible team leader with other departments regarding specialty tasks and task forces created by the City Manager or other departments.Coordinates inspections and dispositions of cases with various departments.Assist the Code Compliance Manager in overseeing work assignments and ensuring timely report submissions.Review training programs with the Code Compliance Manager and provide updated suggestions for improvement.Develop training materials, conduct training sessions, and mentor new staff as they transition into their roles.Performs investigations for possible violations; photograph evidence, contact responsible persons and perform follow-up investigations to ensure remedial actions has been taken.Represent the city in court regarding violations of the city code and prepare material and testimony in conjunction with court appearances.Polices the city for overgrown lots, debris, abandoned vehicles, and other related violations; notifies appropriate personnel.
