Board Secretary – Homestead Hero’s
Position Type: Volunteer (5 hours per week) – Paid upon nonprofit establishment
Location: Remote/Durango, CO (preferred)
Reports to: Board of Directors
About Homestead Hero’s:
Homestead Hero’s is a 501(c)(19) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting homeless veterans by providing housing, resources, and community support. Our mission is to ensure no veteran is left without the care and stability they deserve.
Position Overview:
The Board Secretary is a key governance role responsible for maintaining accurate records, coordinating meetings, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations. This position requires a commitment of at least 5 volunteer hours per week and will transition into a paid role once the organization is financially established.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize board meeting minutes, agendas, and official records.
- Schedule and coordinate board meetings, ensuring proper notice and documentation.
- Assist in filing and maintaining legal documents, including bylaws, policies, and compliance reports.
- Maintain an accurate contact list of board members and key stakeholders.
- Ensure nonprofit compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support fundraising, grant applications, and donor correspondence as needed.
- Collaborate with the Board Chair and other officers to support organizational goals.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Experience with document management and record-keeping.
- Familiarity with nonprofit governance and compliance (preferred but not required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Passion for supporting veterans and the mission of Homestead Hero’s.
Commitment & Compensation:
- Time Commitment: Minimum of 5 volunteer hours per week.
- Compensation: This role is currently unpaid but will transition into a paid position once the nonprofit is financially established.
