As the Vice President of Finance and Accounting, you will play a crucial role in helping shape the financial direction and overall strategic vision of our mutual insurance company. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, guiding investment decisions, and ensuring the financial well-being of the organization. The ideal candidate is a visionary financial leader with extensive experience in the insurance industry, a strong strategic mindset, and a passion for driving success in a collaborative environment.
In this role, the primary responsibilities and accountabilities will be to:
- Strategically lead the finance and accounting teams.
- Be responsible for structuring the department to efficiently handle the increasing needs of the organization in support of its growth and strategic objectives.
- Serve as not only an advisor to the CFO, but also to other members of the leadership team.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for key external stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain appropriate capital management infrastructure-risk based capital models and robust sensitivity capabilities, analysis of potential new capital investments, including the development of appropriate return thresholds, tools to track return on capital by various initiatives, etc. Position will work collaboratively with senior leadership in forming appropriate capital management actions and strategies.
- Support M&A activities, ranging from the structuring of new deals in a capital and tax efficient manner, assisting with due diligence, and ensuring efficient integration from a finance and accounting standpoint.
- Position is located in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Experience, Skills, and Personal Qualities:
- Life insurance experience required.
- Prior experience leading a team required.
- Experience with M&A preferred.
- Thrives on creating and implementing strategy.

- Strong knowledge of Superior statutory accounting knowledge a must, and at least some familiarity with GAAP.
- Strong communication skills – must present ideas in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
