Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

About the Role
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides direct psychiatric care, including evaluations, medication management and ongoing treatment to individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the PMHNP plays a vital role in supporting patients' overall well-being through integrated care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments
- Develop individualized treatment and medication plans
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with current best practices
- Collaborate with behavioral health providers, primary care clinicians and support staff to ensure coordinated care
- Monitor treatment response and adjust care plans as needed
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential documentation
- Provide crisis intervention and consultation as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Maine
- Active DEA license with authority to prescribe Schedule II–V substances
- CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a community health or outpatient mental health setting
- Comfortable treating patients across the lifespan (children, adolescents, adults)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to trauma-informed, patient-centered and culturally competent care
