Position Summary
Reporting to the Respiratory Manager, the Respiratory Practitioner I is responsible for educating patients on prescribed sleep therapy devices. The Practitioner must be able to effectively educate and coach patients on new and existing equipment and supply setup. The ideal candidate will be able to instill confidence in those they interact with, be detail oriented, patient, have a willingness to learn, and be able to develop and maintain relationships.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Ensure patient visit summary is completed timely and accurately, and is stored in patients’ electronic file
- Responsible for both preparing the training environment/class room and setting-up the medical devices needed for each patient’s respiratory care prescription
- Educate patients on proper use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), and similar, devices to treat diagnosed Sleep Apnea
- Perform sleep mask fitting, ensuring proper fit and compliance with manufacturer specifications
- Ensure optimal treatment in compliance with prescribed sleep therapy
- Participate in the clinical evaluation and education of patients prescribed oxygen therapy
- Coordinate and attend clinical visits in patients’ homes, workplaces, company locations and referral sites
- Ensure proof of delivery, patient training, and home safety assessment are completed and transferred to the Processing team
What You Must Bring to This Role
- Associate degree in Registered Respiratory Therapy or Respiratory Therapist from an accredited program - required
- Bachelor’s degree in Registered Respiratory Therapy or Respiratory Therapist from an accredited program - desired
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapy Technician (RTT) or Polysomnographic Technologist (Polysom) or Registered Nurse (RN) for the state of New York - required
- Valid driver’s license - required
- Proven ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and written - required
- Proven success providing an exceptional patient experience - required
- A history of exceptional attention to detail - required
- A history of maintaining quality, safety, and/or infection control standards - required
- A history of maintaining confidentiality - required
- Demonstrated mastery responding to questions in a tactful & professional manner - required
- Strong interpersonal skills & the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals - required
- Ability to provide direct evaluation & consultation to patients - required
- A working knowledge of Brightree, AirView and U-Sleep software - desired
- A member of a professional organization, such as AAST (American Association of Sleep Technologists) - desired
