About the Role

Hometown Organizing Project / Hometown Action (HOP/HA) seeks a part-time, temporary Fundraising Associate to work 12-15 hours per week to support fundraising for all of the organization’s programmatic work. This means working closely with the Executive Director to identify prospective funders for each program area, conducting research to identify funder alignment with the organization, writing grants and funding reports, compiling data, and tracking application and reporting deadlines. The anticipated start date will be May 2025 and extend through November 2025. 


The Fundraising Associate is responsible for supporting day-to-day fundraising activities and keeping the organization on track to meet funding goals and deadlines. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated; a self-starter; possess strong interpersonal, writing and research skills; and have a passion for contributing to social justice within the nonprofit sector. This position is a part-time, temporary; hourly; hybrid remote/on-site position. Preference will be given to candidates living in central Alabama within a 45 minute drive of the organization’s headquarters in Montevallo, AL. Must be available for in-person, on-site work at the office or other community locations 1-2 days a week.  


Candidates must be comfortable working independently and have the ability to build genuine relationships across differences of race, class, gender, geography, and political ideology. While the role does require the ability to work with a high level of independence, the associate must also be able to work well inside a team. This position will report directly to the Executive Director and will frequently engage with all members of staff.

Responsibilities

The overall responsibilities include:

  • Research prospective funders to identify alignment with programmatic work, eligibility requirements, application requirements and deadlines, and reporting requirements;
  • Assist with grant writing based on verbal instructions and using past grant submissions as a reference;
  • Maintain the organization’s tracker of funding applications and grant reports and digital filing system throughout the life cycle of each grant from prospecting to reporting;
  • Coordinate with the staff team to collect and collate relevant data and other information for grant applications and reporting purposes;
  • Create a grant application template for each program area based on current work and previous grant applications;
  • Utilizes the organization’s digital toolset to create fundraising pages, conduct donor lookups and run reports, and complete data entry with high level of accuracy;
  • Participate in internal staff meetings and “all-call” programmatic events such as statewide membership meetings or rapid response moments as needed.


Qualifications

Candidates should have some experience with institutional fundraising or strong experience in an area with clear transferable skills. A strong commitment to racial, gender (including transgender), economic, and climate justice, as well as building power in rural and small town communities, is required.

  • Ability and flexibility to travel to the organization’s Headquarters in Montevallo at least once a week with periodic travel to other parts of the state;
  • Experience in fundraising and a self-interest in supporting social justice work in the areas of Gender Justice, Climate, Disaster Recover, and Civic Engagement within a nonprofit environment;
  • Proficiency in both working independently to achieve goals and commitments, and to work in a team environment;
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills;
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication;
  • Proficiency with online tools and applications, including spreadsheets, and ability to learn new digital tools and databases.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $22/hr
  • Timeframe: 6 months, with the possibility of extension pending funding
  • Flexible PTO policy and at least 10 paid federal holidays (or equivalent time off);;
