House Monitor Job Description
This position is 12AM-8AM Monday through Friday.
This position focuses on making sure our clients are living in a safe environment, attending meetings, when possible, giving advice and lending an empathetic/sympathetic ear to them. Our clients are always our #1 priority, keeping them safe, even if that means from themselves. Some of our responsibilities are as follows, but not limited to -
- Client counts hourly, all clients must be accounted for even if they are not in the facility.
- Staff must always maintain a professional demeanor while at work and out with a client. Being friendly and professional, not being a friend with them. Consistency will be one of our TOP priorities.
- Staff should always arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, so that they may receive the shift report from the staff they are relieving. This is a way for them to relay any issues of the day. Major issues should also be documented in the Shift Log.
- Staff will complete a Shift Log for each shift they work. If more than one staff member is on, then only one will need to fill out the Shift Log. The Shift Log is a constant account of the day’s events. It is very important that it is always completed.
- Staff will be driving company vehicles, transporting clients. Staff are required to submit a driving abstract upon acceptance of employment. Staff will also be responsible for alerting facility staff of any traffic violations accrued during employment within five business days of occurrence.
- Staff will be responsible to search rooms on a weekly basis; staff should never search a room alone. If 2 staff members are available, the whole room may be searched. If only one staff member is available to search, staff should bring clients in one at a time and have them present while searching only that client’s possessions. After each client’s belongings have been searched, retrieve another client to search their belongings.
- Staff will be responsible for random urine screenings of clients. Staff will enter the restroom with client and stay present during the collection process. Staff should be able to verify that the sample is genuine.
- Staff must remain diligent with the rules of the facility. The rules are in place for the client and the staff’s safety. Straying from the rules will cause dissention within the staff and will result in disciplinary action for the staff member.
- Hometown Recovery and Counseling has a ZERO Tolerance policy for any bullying, violence, sexual remarks, and vulgar or coarse language. Remaining professional at all times is a must. Proof of any of these things will result in automatic termination.
- Counseling Centers must have an ever-changing way about them to adjust with the times, rules and regulations submitted by the state. Staff will always be welcome to ask questions. Direct questions to your immediate supervisor and your questions will always be answered if possible. Never feel embarrassed or nervous to ask any questions you have. Constant contact with you supervisor will keep you up to date with all matters concerning the facility and the clients.
- After time, clients will begin to take passes on the weekends, leaving the facility. It is crucial that we meet face to face with the responsible party picking up the client. Verify that their pass information matches the person who came. If the person picking up the client is not the party listed on the pass, the pass must be declined. Without authorization from Clinical or Program Director or other immediate supervisor, client will forfeit the pass. When the responsible party arrives, they must have a photo ID and proof of automobile insurance. When they present it, make a copy of it for the client’s file. We must also make sure the responsible party has a Release of Information on file for said client, if not, one must be filled out at the time of pickup before the client leaves the facility. Verify with client what time they are to return, if they do not return at said time, contact your supervisor. When they return, they will be subject to both a urine screen and an alcohol swab test. If either are positive, contact your supervisor. Remember to stay calm, any anxiousness from staff could cause clients to become nervous or anxious and wish to leave the facility. We do not want that, always remain calm, and contact your supervisor. Remember! When a client is out of the facility on pass, a staff member must always be at the facility, in case of emergency, staff must be available. If clients are on pass, and 2 staff members are present, one must always stay at the facility until ALL clients have returned from pass. If only one staff member is present and any clients are out on pass, staff is to stay at facility until all clients return. Protection of our clients is our #1 priority, so we must always be available to them.
- 3rd Shift must make sure clients are accounted for hourly throughout the night, going into each room and verifying clients are present. 3rd shift will also be responsible for doing facility laundry, towels and washcloths.
- Staff will assist in self administration of medications for clients. Staff will only have one client present at a time, focusing solely on the client. After retrieving client’s medication, staff and client are to sit across from each other. Staff will find the medication logs for client, staff will verify the medication, the frequency of the medication, and staff will verify the pill count is correct before and after medication is dispensed to client. Always focus your attention on the client as he/she is taking their medication. If count is wrong before administered, make a note on the medication log, and notify your supervisor. If count is wrong after client takes medication, follow the same policy, but note to supervisor that count was right before client self-administered medication. Watching clients during medication time is of the utmost importance, staff attention should never be swayed from client’s actions.
- Staff are never to allow clients to use their personal cellular phones. Some clients may ask for staff to look something up on their personal devices, staff are to inform clients that this will not be possible, ever.
