Hometown Restaurant Group is seeking an experienced sushi chefs to help lead our kitchen at Tigerlily in downtown Ferndale. This position will assist in running day-to-day kitchen operations under the direction of the Head Sushi Chef.
Tigerlily is an upscale Japanese-style restaurant specializing in unique sushi offerings, a robatayki grill, a comprehensive sake list, and creative and unique sushi offerings. Hometown Restaurant Group is a community of restaurants (Pop's for Italian, Tigerlily, Mai Tiki, Public House, One-Eyed Betty's) in downtown Ferndale, each with its own distinct identity and flavor, and a shared vision to invigorate our city.
Applicants should have at least five years of kitchen experience, including one to three years as a sushi chef. As a sushi chef, you will be responsible for preparing sushi to order during our weekday and weekend dinner service under the direction of our Head Sushi Chef. Applicants should have an understanding of various types of sushi, appropriate knife and food handling skills. As a Sushi Chef at Tigerlily, you will be part of a team atmosphere that works well and communicates under pressure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare meals and food to meet the specifications of guests and management in a timely manner.
- Properly inventory, prepare and manage ingredients and food portions.
- Adhere to set standards, procedures, established rules and sanitary requirements.
- Assist with managing kitchen staff and operations, including inventory, training and other duties as directed by the Executive Chef.
- Ensure proper food temperatures when cooking and storing items.
- Keeping work station and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized.
- Taking charge of kitchen opening, closing and other side duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Exceptional cooking skills and culinary knowledge, particularly with sushi and Japanese cuisine.
- Professional attitude and career-minded approach to work
- Familiarity with best practices in the culinary and catering services industry.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards.
- Ability to multitask and work quickly under pressure
- Verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; and organizational skills
- 5-years professional culinary experience
- 1-3 years experience as a sushi chef

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
