Job Summary

The Director of Financial Intelligence is responsible for overseeing the financial crime and fraud risk management practices of the organization, with a specific focus on protecting sensitive financial data and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The position works closely with executive leadership, IT teams, and other stakeholders to develop and implement robust financial crime and fraud prevention strategies and protocols. The role reports identified risks, mitigation recommendations, and status updates to the designated committee of the Board of Directors (the “Board”) for HomeTrust Bancshares and HomeTrust Bank (the “Corporation”). There is a level of independence and proactive management expected to identify emerging risks that may create exposure to the Corporation or have an impact on the achievement of the Corporation’s strategic plan.


Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain a holistic financial intelligence management program and budget tailored to meet the specific needs of the Corporation.
  • Oversee the implementation of financial monitoring systems, algorithms, and tools for transaction analysis and fraud detection.
  • Develop and implement strategies for detecting and preventing money laundering, fraud, and terrorist financing.
  • Leverage analytics to help prevent, detect, and mitigate various types of financial crime and fraud.
  • Develop and maintain a fraud response process to serve customers affected by fraud or identity theft.
  • Promptly react and lead mitigation efforts when real-time events occur and create potential exposure/loss to the Bank.
  • Lead a team of BSA and fraud prevention professionals, providing direction, guidance, and support to effectively detect, prevent, and respond to financial crime and fraudulent activities.
  • Lead financial crime and fraud investigation initiatives and incident response efforts with identified and measurable milestones and goals, including regular, comprehensive reporting to inform key leaders of efforts relating to each initiative. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders throughout the investigative life cycle, including evidence gathering, impact assessments, and corrective action steps.
  • React to real-time events that require immediate actions to mitigate exposure/loss to the Bank.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to implement technical controls and solutions, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, encryption and multi-factor authentication.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and ensure service levels and performance standards are met for outsourced functions related to fraud and BSA.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to employees within the organization to foster a culture of financial crime and fraud awareness and accountability.
  • Develop and provide training programs and awareness campaigns to educate employees and customers about financial crime and fraud related risks and prevention best practices.
  • Stay informed about emerging threats, trends, and technologies in the financial crime and fraud related fields to anticipate and counteract evolving threats.
  • Establish strong relationships with industry partners, law enforcement agencies, and regulatory bodies to share intelligence and collaborate on financial crime and fraud prevention efforts.
  • Represent the organization in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and at conferences to share insights and stay informed about best practices in financial intelligence.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, auditors, and other external stakeholders on matters related to financial intelligence and fraud.
  • Prepare and present regular reporting to executive management and the board of directors on the state of financial crime and fraud risk and the effectiveness of current controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Adhere to all corporate policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations, and laws.
  • Complete all mandatory annual compliance training.
  • Follow regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identifications, detection and determent of money laundering and other unlawful activities, as well as regulations pertaining to lending and consumer compliance to include fair lending laws.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CAMS, CFE) is preferred.

Required:

  • 10 years proven experience in criminal justice, incident response management, or financial crime/fraud risk management, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
  • Extensive experience in risk management, compliance, or law enforcement related to financial crimes.
  • Proven track record of working with financial monitoring tools, reporting systems, and investigative techniques.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, anti-money laundering (AML) frameworks, and relevant global standards.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and development.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify insights, and make data-driven decisions with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and presenting findings to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
