Role: The Caregiver plays a crucial role in providing compassionate, high-quality in-home care to clients, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. This role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, personal care, companionship, and basic healthcare support, while respecting their dignity and independence. Caregivers also work closely with families and healthcare providers to deliver personalized, non-medical, client-centered care.
Overview:
As a Caregiver at Homewatch Caregivers of Los Altos, you will be responsible for providing essential care and support to clients within their homes. This position involves assisting with activities of daily living, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, and maintaining effective communication with clients and their families.
Caregivers hold current certifications and trainings. Caregivers must be reliable, dependable, honest, and caring. Caregivers are not allowed to smoke in clients’ homes and must have their own transportation. Some may need to take clients to appointments or run errands. This will require them to possess a valid driver’s license and to have current automobile insurance. Caregivers must be observant enough to recognize changes in their clients and be capable of alerting the appropriate personnel when necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Personal Care Assistance
- Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene needs.
- Support clients with mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation.
- Provide medication reminders and assist with prescribed exercise routines.
2. Companionship & Emotional Support
- Engage clients in conversation, hobbies, and social activities to reduce isolation.
- Provide emotional support, encouragement, and companionship to enhance well-being.
- Accompany clients on outings, errands, medical appointments, or recreational activities as needed.
3. Household Assistance & Meal Preparation
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals based on dietary restrictions.
- Assist with light housekeeping, laundry, and maintaining a clean living environment.
- Help with grocery shopping and organizing household essentials.
4. Health Monitoring & Reporting
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s condition, behavior, or health status.
- Communicate with families and healthcare professionals to coordinate care adjustments.
- Follow care plans, safety protocols, and emergency procedures as instructed.
5. Specialized Care (As Needed & Depending on Training)
- Provide dementia and Alzheimer’s care by implementing cognitive engagement techniques.
- Assist with non-medical care for post-hospitalization or post-surgical recovery following care guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a caregiver in a home care setting or skilled facility preferred
- Must complete and stay in compliant with all necessary trainings and certifications
- Experience in elder care, dementia care, disability support, or post-surgical recovery assistance is a plus.
- Must pass all background check and drug screening clearance with satisfactory results
- Must be able to function with minimal supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the client
- Must accept responsibility for maintaining skills and learning on an ongoing basis, as well as adhering to company policies
- Does not administer medication or perform any procedures requiring the knowledge or skills of a licensed nurse or registered therapist
Physical Qualifications
- Able to work an average of 20-40 hours per week.
- Able to bend, climb, stoop, and stand an average of 5 hours per day.
- Able to lift 20-30 pounds.
- Able to use tools necessary for job.
