- Delivering Orders: The primary task of a food runner is to deliver food and drinks from the kitchen or bar to the guests' tables in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensuring Accuracy: It's essential that food runners confirm the orders before delivering to ensure accuracy. They check that the correct items are being brought to the right tables.
- Setting Up and Clearing Tables: They may assist in setting up tables with condiments, napkins, and silverware, and clear dishes and empty glasses when guests are finished.
- Communication: Food runners need to communicate effectively with kitchen staff, bartenders, and servers to ensure that orders are up-to-date, correct, and delivered on time.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: They may also help maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant or bar area, particularly when the food or drink service gets busy. This can include cleaning tables, wiping down counters, and helping to restock supplies.
- Guest Assistance: While food runners generally focus on delivering food, they might be expected to answer basic questions about the menu or the restaurant, help guests with special requests, or direct them to other staff for more detailed service.
