What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer - Automotive position at Honda Development and Manufacturing of America?
Job Purpose:
Advance supply chain stability with a single and efficient regional mindset, maintaining strong delivery characteristics with a regional viewpoint to support smooth production operations across North American manufacturing facilities ensuring customer satisfaction.
Under limited supervision, responsible for leading NA Crisis mitigation and countermeasure for OEM Suppliers and managing supplier performance, in addition to other duties not specified but required for production and/or other core business activities. Participates in broad scope projects and handles complex supplier situations.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Suppliers and other Honda Business Units to achieve supplier stability Minimize supplier touchpoints thru optimizing activity Clearly summarize each supplier situation so issue, impact, root cause and CM are clearly communicated
Key Accountabilities:
Initiate/support situation appraisal and analysis of a supplier crisis on a specific part or assembly process (Tooling/Equipment Spec/Part Drawing Spec or Evaluation/OEE/Volume Assessment/SAP development, etc.). Coordinate and support implementation of immediate corrective action plan (short term and long term) at critical suppliers Support communication, interaction, and summary reviews with supplier and HDMA Management Support critical proactive projects (Capacity Management / Minimum Process Requirements / A-Rank NARS reporting, Shutdown, etc.). Complete reporting and Gemba activity for root cause analysis / countermeasure implementation to solve complex problems w/ attention to closure speed and effectiveness Engage in continuous improvement through cycling Plan Do Check Action (PDCA) for area of responsibility (Capacity and/or Special projects) to ensure associate success
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent related experience 2-8 years of relevant engineering experience Manufacturing process knowledge (stamping, welding, assembly, material flow, electronics, injection molding, paint, casting, machining, etc.) Honda systems knowledge (NARS/CMS/GPCS)
Working Conditions:
Strong Sense of urgency and flexibility to respond to critical issues and unplanned risk events Ability to travel at moments notice to confirm supplier situation at the spot (50% time) Ability to work in an open office environment, at a supplier's operations, or conduct business virtually where expectations are maintained Ability to work 1st,2nd, or 3rd shift in a limited basis to support on-site supplier crisis Ability to work up to 5-15 hours OT each week as needed
