Position Overview:
The Summer Camp Assistant – Full-Time Group Leader supports the Lead Teacher in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children in grades K-6. This role focuses on assisting with daily activities, providing hands-on support to campers, and helping manage group dynamics under the guidance of the Lead Teacher. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, dependable, and enjoys working with children in a camp setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Support:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate activities, including arts & crafts, active games, and group events.
- Actively participate in all camp activities, providing guidance and encouragement to campers.
- Camper Supervision:
- Supervise groups of children during activities, meals, field trips, and transitions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a positive group environment and managing camper behavior using appropriate strategies.
- Promote teamwork, respect, and inclusion among all campers.
- Team Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with the Lead Teacher and Summer Camp Manager regarding camper progress, behavior concerns, and daily activities.
- Work collaboratively with fellow camp staff to ensure smooth daily operations and consistency in camp programming.
- Administrative Assistance:
- Take attendance and assist with maintaining accurate camp attendance.
- Help with setting up and cleaning up activity areas and ensuring supplies are organized.
- Assist with incident reports and follow camp policies and safety guidelines.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time, seasonal position during summer months.
- Typical hours: Monday – Friday, 9:15am-6:00pm – 45 minute break (exact hours may vary based on camp needs).
- Can work with part-time Monday, Wednesday, Friday I Tuesday, Thursday
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
- Capability to stand, walk, run, bend, lift up to 30 lbs, and assist in basic first aid if necessary.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or before/after school setting preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiasm for working with children and a supportive, positive attitude.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
