Position Summary
The Lead Teacher guides children through activities that support their social, physical, and intellectual development. They create and plan lessons, monitor and evaluate the academic and emotional progress of 2 & 3-year-olds preschool students, and maintain regular communication with parents.
Work Schedule
8:00 AM – 4:45 PM Monday - Friday
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
· Plan, organize, and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips. Lesson plans are due every Friday for the next week.
· Teach basic skills, such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.
· Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
· Attend to children's basic needs.
· Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
· Serve meals and snacks following nutritional guidelines.
· Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
· Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
· Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
· Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems and discuss them with supervisors, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.
· Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs, determine their priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development.
· Decorate the room including bulletin boards
· Plan, carry out and submit meeting notes to Director of weekly Classroom Team meetings (may include discussion of behavior management, curriculum planning, gathering supplies, sanitizing toys & materials, etc.)
· Oversee classroom budget and submit receipts accordingly
· Attend 15 hours of in-service training per school year as agreed upon with Director
· Be familiar with state regulations as well as with Program Policies of Honey Grove Educational Center
· Consistently provide positive behavior management and reinforcement
· Implement and maintain an atmosphere of confidentiality for employees, parents, and students
· Create a professional and inviting environment at all times throughout the entirety of the center's property inside and out
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities)
- Minimum of a CDA or willing to earn
- Three years of related experience or relevant coursework
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Experience managing a potty-training classroom.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
