Are you ready to help us make the future?
Join a team that designs, develops and integrates highly complex systems for space within Honeywell Aerospace. As an Optical Design Engineer, you will work in a small cross-functional team of Mechanical and Systems engineers collaborating on the design, development and implementation of space science instruments, technology and missions. The developments include a broad spectrum of optical and opto-mechanical elements, such as mirrors and mounts, to critical subsystems such as fore optics and detector assembly, and to full instruments with electronics and mechanisms will need to be assembled, integrated, and tested.
Key Responsibilities
- Able to evaluate and understand customer requirements and interfaces towards the development of concepts and layouts of optical instrumentation.
- Develop unique optical design concepts and support opto-mechanical design efforts, e.g. optical mounts, flexures and structures with critical constraints that meet the demanding requirements of space applications.
- Perform detailed tolerance analyses to support the optical and opto-mechanical design.
- Analyze the thermal and stray light impacts on optical system performance.
- Using your good understanding of manufacturing processes and DFMA and design for support the assembly integration and test of optical components, subsystems and instruments.
- Through good communication skills and writing prepare technical proposals and support the generation of cost estimates and project schedules and presentations at design reviews and customer meetings.
