Based at Torrance, California. This position will provide support for new and existing products including environmental control systems, aircraft propulsion engines, auxiliary power units, landing gear, fuel controls, avionics, guidance and electrical systems. As an integral member of the Materials Engineering team at Honeywell Aerospace, you will support aerospace level functional groups in forgings, powder metals, melt conversion, castings, heat treat, Brazing and engineering substantiation/source approval. You will apply experience working in teams to solve complex special process solutions, and develop new and innovative products. You use refined project engineering skills to influence teams that solve various materials challenges.
Primary responsibilities include support for materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of parts. Use hands-on experience with aerospace metals, leading engineers to solve all types of metallurgical and process challenges with strong team and project engineering skills, design support, insourcing/transition support, specification maintenance, process documentation, approval of suppliers and components that utilize Aerospace special processes, conducting maintenance audits to ensure specification and process compliance, support the determination of Root Cause and Corrective Action associated with process escapes, and dentification of producibility opportunities and cost reduction.
Required in depth technical expertise in one or more of the following areas for Aerospace applications:
· Heat treatment
· Brazing
· Castings
· Forgings
· Additive Manufacturing
Technical skills include Recognizing processing history in metallurgical results and explain meaning of the results to upper leadership, peers, and to early career engineers, using data science approach with materials science principles to develop and execute design of experiments or using computational materials software. Use practical experience with special processes (forgings, castings, HT, etc) suppliers to readily understand their challenges, articulate robust guidance for solutions, and effectively relay supplier experience to the Honeywell designers for improved manufacturability
