This is a Senior Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist role for leading and supporting new product development, and process improvement projects for Honeywell’s Advanced Materials Life-science, Protective, Industrial business. The position will be based in Buffalo, NY research center. This role is responsible for problem-solving, ideation, and invention of new process technology or new products. The daily activities include the design of experiments, guiding pilot plant technicians, troubleshooting equipment issues, analyzing experimental data, and writing technical presentations and reports. This role will also support the commercial plants in the Gulf area for troubleshooting process issues and improving plant OEE by leading or joining cross-functional project teams.
To be successful the candidate should have hands-on engineering experiences in the lab, pilot plant, or commercial plant environments. Advanced Chemical Engineering and Project Management skills are also essential. The candidate should have profound experience and knowledge in polymerization technologies and processes, e.g., suspension, emulsion, solution, and bulk polymerization along with knowledge of initiators, catalysts, chain termination, and chain transfer agents.
The candidate should have Six Sigma and project management skills, and be able to use DOE tools and Minitab data analysis. FMEA, RCA, Gantt charts, risk management, communicating results and escalating challenges, along with writing technical reports will be essential. Act with urgency and deliver results through good planning and execution.
Process safety is most important. The candidate should know about Process Safety Management, e.g., PHA, MOC, MI, RCA, PFD, P&ID, etc. DCS knowledge is also important for controlling the experiments.
