Summary:

The Sr. Production Scheduler reports through the Materials Planning organization and is responsible for long-range planning, preparing, issuing and controlling production schedules and material requirements based on analysis and interpretation of data from complex, integrated computer software programs to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. The Sr. Production scheduler creates and maintains a valid master schedule for the factory by effectively balancing supply and demand and completing in-depth capacity and inventory analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and continual analysis of an executable master schedule for a business unit based on in-depth review of complex supply, demand, capacity, and inventory information
  • Recognizes out-of-balance conditions and identifies alternatives and recommended actions for recovery
  • Responsible for acceptance of new customer requirements
  • Completes in-depth analysis with respect to material and capacity availability to provide customer promise dates
  • Negotiates changes to requested dates with internal customers to ensure customer program, development and qualification schedules are met
  • Develops working knowledge of products and processes to ensure optimal master schedule stability, order creation, reschedule and level loading of work
  • Acts as an internal educator and consultant on Master Scheduling issues, providing education and training throughout the company to improve company-wide understanding of ERP functions
  • May retain departmental planner code responsibility
  • Evaluates/analyzes, approves, and applies complex planning messages generated from the planning system based on a master production schedule, shop load, and inventory requirements. Identifies impact to the schedule and negotiates with Master Scheduler, Supervisor and/or other Production Schedulers
  • Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed
  • Identifies raw material and component requirements for production schedules
  • Ensures components are available to meet weekly schedules
  • Expedites, if required, through Purchasing, Receiving Inspection, or other Production Schedulers
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activity with Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Inventory Control, and Program Management
  • May provide guidance to Supervisor or Production Schedulers
  • Manually releases Production IDs and rework PIDs as needed Maintains due dates, component lists and operation lists on Production ID's 
  • Analyzes inventory usage, scrap and yield and coordinates any appropriate action 
  • Participates/leads Dispatch/Production status meetings and schedule recovery planning
  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to ""stop"" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Every employee has the responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.
