Job Title: Vineyard and Winery Internship
Honig Vineyard and Winery, a family-owned winery located in the Rutherford AVA, seeks enthusiastic interns to gain hands-on experience in vineyard, lab, and cellar operations.
Responsibilities:
- Vineyard Activities:
- Maturity sampling at various locations
- Vine-status testing on estate vines including tissue sampling, assay performance, and data collection and recording
- Laboratory Activities:
- Basic lab analysis on juice and wine
- Daily fermentation monitoring
- Winemaking and Cellar Activities:
- Assist with grape receiving and processing
- Barrel work, including topping and racking
- Racking juice and wine
- Inoculating juice
- Additions to fermentations and wine
- Cleaning and sanitation of winery equipment and facilities
- Communicate with Cellar Master regarding coordination of repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment
- Safety and Sustainability:
- Contribute to creating a safe work environment
- Follow sustainable practices in all work as set forth by the winemaking team
Qualifications:
- Availability to commit to harvest season (July)
- Ability and willingness to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures
- Ability to work independently with attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
- Proficient in basic math
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations
Requirements:
- Work 40 hours per week, may include weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays during harvest or as necessary
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to perform tasks requiring walking, bending, stooping, standing and twisting
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels and temperatures
- Ability to work at heights, such as on a scissor lift or high ladder
- Ability to see, taste, smell, and hear
- Reliable transportation. Position requires driving and a clean driver's license
