We are seeking an experienced climber who can work as part of a crew, handling everything from pruning to removals to cabling/bracing and lightning protection installation. As a tree climber, you will also have the opportunity to lead and develop Arborist Apprentices that are part of your crew.
Requirements include:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of climbing experience using ropes and follow all safety standards.
- Must be physically fit for climbing
- Must have clear understanding of and capability in rigging
- Basic knowledge of tree removal techniques
- Experience operating a chainsaw
- Must be self-motivated with a desire to not only grow and learn, but to help others learn and develop in their roles as Arborist Apprentices and Trainees
- Must hold a valid Virginia Driver’s License with a clean driving record and have reliable transportation to work
- Ability to work Monday-Thursday from 7AM until approximately 3-5PM depending on the size of the job
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors year-round in both cold and hot conditions.
Preference will be given to individuals with:
- ISA Arborist Certification
- Basic understanding of tree anatomy & pruning techniques
- Strong tree identification skills
- Sales experience
- Crew leader experience
Duties:
Vary depending on skills and certifications:
- Run your own team if you have demonstrated experience
- Communicate effectively with teammates

- Contribute to training new teammates as directed and/or needed
- Drive trucks and trailers to and from the job site.
- Ensure that each employee has the proper PPE according to the assigned task
- Perform equipment inspections prior to use
- Maintain equipment and vehicles in a clean, professional manner.
- Operate a variety of power equipment depending on skills and certifications including skid steerer, chipper, stump grinder, etc.
- Prepare vehicles and equipment on a daily basis to be as productive as possible onsite including fueling, cleaning, greasing and performing preventative maintenance in a regular proactive manner.
- Follow safety protocols when working with power tools.
- Inspect trees for dead or diseased branches and limbs.
- Climb trees using rope & harness, and spur & flip line climbing techniques
- Remove dead or diseased branches and limbs from trees. Use a variety of tools, such as saws, shears, and pruners, to trim and shape trees.
- Drag limbs, clear debris, rake, and clean-up job site
