Job Title: Streaming Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA
THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION WITH 20 HOURS A WEEK.
We are looking for a Streaming Engineer responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems to deliver event live video to our viewers. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in video encoding, networking, video cloud platforms, and associated software familiarity, along with a strong understanding of live production workflows.
The role would require the ability to work under pressure with a variety of teams, including in-house marketing, event, technology teams, and vendors to align content with brand strategy and audience expectations.
Events require occasional travel.
This role would enhance our audience engagement and contributing to the overall success of our streaming initiatives. It will be a vital part of a strong team.
Key Responsibilities:
Live Encoding and Transcoding:
Configure, test, and manage live video encoders (hardware and software).
Optimize encoding settings for various platforms, content needs, and local conditions.
Troubleshoot encoding issues in real-time.
Content Delivery Network (CDN) Management:
Configure and monitor CDN services for efficient content delivery.
Manage failover and redundancy.
Cloud Infrastructure:
Monitor cloud-based streaming services for performance and reliability.
Networking:
Understand network protocols (RTMPS, HLS, DASH, etc.).
Determine network needs.
Troubleshoot network issues related to live video streaming.
Optimize network configurations, as possible, for low latency and high bandwidth.
Monitoring and Alerting:
Analyze monitoring data to identify and resolve problems.
Communicate disruptions and recommended steps to producers.
Monitor audience engagement, and feedback to improve future broadcasts.
Troubleshooting and Support:
Provide real-time support for live events.
Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to live streaming.
Document troubleshooting procedures and best practices.
Determine and Solve for Associated Needs:
Determine caption and other accessibility needs.
Plan for geo replays/simulives.
Provide recording turnaround timeline and provide trims/edits.
Qualifications & Skills:
Deep understanding of video encoding and streaming protocols.
Experience with CDN services, video cloud platforms, and strong networking knowledge.
Experience with live production workflows.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and solutions.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to multitask and react quickly to live changes.
Basic video editing and following publishing workflows.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience with event platforms, including RainFocus, On24, Zoom Events, homegrown, etc.
3 years experience with enterprise video platforms, including, but not limited to, Brightcove, Kaltura, Panopto, Meta, Vimeo, LinkedIn, YouTube, Zoom, Restream, etc.
2 years experience with software and hardwire encoders and encoding including, but not limited to, Epiphan Pearl, Haivision Makito, Magewell Ultra, vMix, Wirecast.
2 years experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or DaVinci Resolve
Background in enterprise/corporate media.
